Navy veteran hit in head with 16-pound pine cone at San Francisco park sues for $5M

A U.S. Navy veteran has filed a $5 million lawsuit after he claims he was conked in the head with a giant pine cone while napping at a California national park.

Sean Mace, 51, was left with irreversible brain damage and a paralyzing fear of the outdoors after a 16-pound pine cone fell off a tree at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and crushed his skull, his lawyer said.

“He’s a wreck. He has an overwhelming fear and anxiety of going outside. He doesn’t want to get hit again,” Mace’s attorney Scott Johnson told the Daily News. “It’s an emotional roller-coaster for him on a daily basis.”

Mace, who hails from Washington state, was visiting the federal waterfront park in San Francisco last October during Fleet Week to watch the Blue Angels air show.

He was sleeping underneath a tree grove when a massive pine cone came hurling toward his head, the suit alleges.
